Hollywood Helper File Transfer instructions New iTunes file sharing.

For V2.1 of the app and iPhoneOS4.0 and higher, you can use iTunes file sharing features to transfer your script files from your computer to the app.

This is easier than using the WiFi transfer.

Make sure your iTunes is up to date or this may not work.

For pre-iOS4.0 and pre-V2.1 of the app:

Transferring your text files to the Hollywood Helper iPhone app

This application is provided to allow you to send your text files from your desktop or laptop to this app only, using a WiFi connection.

See the Help / File Transfer menu within this application for details.

Mac instructions

1. Download this zip file to your Mac.

2. Double click to unzip it and drag the hhft app into your Applications directory.

3. Double click on the app to run it.

Windows instructions

Note: If the Windows zip download seems to broken, send a mail to hh at diffent.com and we will send you the zip file via email. We had some earlier problems with file corruption, which we think we fixed via the new format WinZip "x" format.

Note: You should upgrade your Hollywood Helper app to version 1.1 or later as soon as it is available on iTunes if you want to use Windows file transfer... to avoid possible file transfer problems.

1. Download this zipx file to your PC.

2. Unzip the "zipx" file using WinZip. Note: zipx files are newer more secure and smaller zip files. It is recommended by the WinZip company that we use these for transferring programs over the internet.

3. Go to the newly created folder WinHHFTPackage and double click on the setup program (not SETUP.LST) to start the install...follow the install instructions and use all the default settings, don't try a custom installation.

4. The new program should appear in the Start / All Programs menu, called WindowsHHFT.

5. Start the program and follow the instructions to send your script files to the app on your phone.

Other

This HHFT application will not send files to any other iPhone app; it will only send files to the Documents folder of the HH app. You must be in the WiFi Download mode of the phone app for the transfer to occur, and you must remember to press the Receive button in that mode, once for each file transferred. Only one file can be transferred at a time.

This simple method is intended to provide minimal file transfer features until such a time as a more uniform method of transferring files from your computer to your phone apps is provided by Apple or other third parties.

WiFi considerations

You may connect your iPhone via WiFi to a PC or Mac (and this file transfer program) using any of the following methods:

1. Public WiFi (coffee shop, library, office), as long as a password is not required to access the WiFi system.

2. Home WiFi (same as above), that you have already set up for other purposes.

3. "Ad hoc" WiFi. This is where you create a new "ad hoc" WiFi network on a laptop or desktop, and then your iPhone can connect to it. You can be anywhere and do this if you have a a laptop...in your van, at the beach, in the park, at the studio, etc. You need not be in a WiFi "hotspot". This is easy to do on Mac and Windows7. It is maybe a little more confusing on Windows XP and may depend on where you got your PC. Typically on a laptop you will be able to select which of possibly several WiFi systems in range that you can connect to. Somewhere in these menus, find "ad hoc" WiFi or "Free Public WiFi" and follow those prompts. Rememeber, for ad hoc, you want to "create a new network" on the laptop which you then connect to from your iPhone thru the normal WiFi selection method on the phone.

After your phone/computer WiFi connection is achieved, you can then use this file transfer program.

Be sure to temporarily shut of the "firewall" on your laptop or desktop when using this file transfer program, or your iPhone will not be able to find your PC or Mac in the WiFi airspace.
